How William Wallace Really Would Have Looked

June 03, 2008 | Permalink

This last week I met a young man named Sam McIntire at the New Hampshire homeschool conference who really enjoys studying history and battles. After talking to him for a while he told me that he does some small scale reenacting with family and friends. One way in which he has used his knowledge of military history is that he has taught himself to draw very impressive and accurate pictures of soldiers of all eras. All his images are researched and done with minute historical detail. Here are a few of them:

In light of the Scotland tour, you might be interested to see what William Wallace would have really dressed like. Not the Beric the Briton barbarian type costumes portrayed in the film Braveheart, but as a noble or knight. (This was before the Scottish plaid or even Heraldry, so the Scots would have worn whatever colors or design was their fancy).

Here is a crusader knight, probably one of the Knights of Saint John or a Templar. I love the detail that has been brought to these images.

This last one is a modern Navy SEAL.
